Why do I occasionally get the prompt "Gateway is not connected" when trying to set up Tap-to-Run and Automation for a device?

Understand why Bluetooth devices require a gateway connection for automation and how to resolve the issue.

This may be because the device is a Bluetooth device and was set up by directly connecting to a smartphone, making it unable to create automation.

We recommend connecting the device to a Bluetooth gateway to resolve this issue.

Why This Happens

When a Bluetooth device is paired directly with your smartphone without going through a Bluetooth gateway, it operates in a limited mode. In this configuration:

  • The device can only be controlled when your phone is nearby and connected
  • Automation and Tap-to-Run features require constant device availability
  • Without a gateway, the device cannot remain connected when your phone is away

Solution

To enable automation features for your Bluetooth device, you need to connect it to a Bluetooth gateway:

  1. Get a compatible Bluetooth gateway device
  2. Remove the device from your smartphone's direct Bluetooth connection
  3. Add the device through the gateway in the app
  4. Once connected via the gateway, automation features will become available
