Should Bluetooth mesh devices be added under the gateway or separately?

Learn the difference between Bluetooth Mesh protocol gateways and private protocol gateways, and how to add devices correctly.

Question

I purchased a Bluetooth mesh gateway. Should my Bluetooth mesh device be added under the Bluetooth mesh gateway or I can add it in the same way as the Bluetooth mesh device?

Answer

There are two types of Bluetooth Mesh gateways: one is a Bluetooth Mesh protocol gateway, and the other is a Mesh gateway that uses our private protocol.

Bluetooth Mesh Protocol Gateway

If you can see the option to add a sub-device in the device control interface of the gateway, it means that you have purchased a Bluetooth Mesh protocol gateway.

This type of gateway must add Bluetooth Mesh devices to the Bluetooth Mesh gateway device before the Bluetooth Mesh devices can be controlled by the gateway. Both the gateway and the devices must use the Bluetooth Mesh protocol. Please consult the seller for protocol details.

Private Protocol Mesh Gateway

If there is no option to add a sub-device in the device control interface of the gateway, it means that you have purchased our private protocol Bluetooth Mesh gateway.

This type of Mesh gateway does not need to add Mesh devices to the Mesh gateway device. You can control the Mesh devices by adding them in the way of adding Bluetooth devices.
