Why can't my iPhone connect to a device when my Android phone has no problem connecting to it?

Learn how to resolve iPhone connection issues with smart devices when Android phones connect successfully.

Problem Description

If your Android phone can connect to a smart device successfully, but your iPhone cannot, this issue is commonly related to dual-band router settings.

Solution

First, check whether you are using a 5 GHz/2.4 GHz dual-band router.

Many smart home devices only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connections and cannot connect to 5 GHz networks.

If your Android phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and has no problem connecting to the device, while your iPhone is randomly connected to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network and cannot connect to the device, you need to manually connect your iPhone to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.

Steps to Connect

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone
  2. Tap Wi-Fi
  3. Look for your 2.4 GHz network (usually has "2.4G" or similar in the name)
  4. Disconnect from the 5 GHz network if connected
  5. Connect to the 2.4 GHz network
  6. Try connecting your smart device again

Make sure your iPhone stays connected to the 2.4 GHz network during the device setup process.
